My name is Miriam Verburg, and I was the coordinator of the Digital Literacy Project at the Atwater Library.

Matt: Tell me about the program at the Atwater Library.

Miriam:

The program at the Atwater Library started in 2006, I think – I’m pretty sure. It was a youth media training program developed by myself in collaboration with Hugh McGuire and a team of 10 or so people – the advisory board. Their aim was to create partnerships with local community organizations and schools, to organize youth media training projects that would take place over a 2-month period in spring of 2007. I was the one hired to create those partnerships and hire teachers that were going to teach the media programs, and oversee the programs as they took place. That was the first year – there was three years at the program and it more or less kept to that pattern over 3 years, depending on funding we either did more or less workshops.

Matt: Is there a more brief way of summing that up?

I coordinated media projects that were organized as partnerships between local community organizations, schools and the Atwater Library.
