My name is Lynn Worrall. I’m a co-ordinator of a program called Word, which stands for Writing Our Rhymes Down. I’ve been involved in this program for two years now – we’ve just completed our second season, we had our second season at James Lyng.
Miriam: Okay. Can you tell me about the program that James Lyng.
did, or that Word did at James Lyng this year?

Lynn:
Word did an after-school program at James Lyng – it was the only after school program on Thursdays. It was a program to encourage kids to write. It was basically writing workshops, and to get them really into self-expression using hip-hop culture as a way of engaging kids and bringing out issues. Kind of like media studies, but in a hip-hop context; also social studies/history/fun hanging out time!
