Mission

James Lyng seeks to engender and stimulate a mindset in its students that builds a meaningful liaison between home, community and school. This collaborative approach to supporting the daily lives of our students seeks to generate a sense of continuity, constancy and relevance that progressively provides each student with a network of related resources whereby they are more prepared to face the challenges presented from a historically disconnected learning environment.

James Lyng is a small English-language high school located in southwest Montreal, close to the neighbourhoods of Ville - Emard, St, Henri, and Cote Ste-Paul. Students From James Lyng have participated in a variety of workshops organized by facilitators and coordinators interviewed here. Allannah Murphy the Community-Learning Coordinator at James Lyng has collaborated with both the Digital Literacy Project and W.O.R.D on activities for her students. She describes the school and it's students thus:

James Lyng is an English language high school offering a regular program of study under the direction of the English Montreal School Board. Our student population is composed of youth who experience a high degree of social and economic disadvantage. A large proportion of our students also experience serious learning or behavioral difficulties. Given these circumstances, we make every attempt to enrich the educational and life experiences of our students, offering them a range of appropriate, supervised educational activities.
