Mission
The Atwater Digital Literacy Project, an initiative of the Atwater Library and Computer Centre (ALCC), helps youth and community organizations learn creative web technologies (blogging, audio, video, digital photos) to talk about things important to them, strengthen ties to their communities and build networks of friendship and trust.
The Digital Literacy Project has been in operation since 2006. In the past three years, the DLP has collaborated with W.O.R.D, the Sense Project, James Lyng and other programs at Head & Hands to develop a variety of media workshops for youth.
Miriam Verburg, the primary investigator on this project, is also the program coordinator at The Digital Literacy Project. It was her involvement in the DLP that led her to research youth media programs as a graduate thesis.
